We just got back from the beach a couple of days ago. It was sooo relaxing. The forecast predicted rain for the whole weekend but we got lucky because the rain held off until late into the night on all three days. Here’s our trip via instagram.

Lots of down time and chilling with good friends. We stayed at the same place as last year, thanks to Rachel’s kind aunt. <3

I finally received my Holga and black and white prints back! It took 3 weeks! I still have to scan them all onto my computer so until I do that, here are my disposable camera shots. On this trip I used the two disposable cameras I brought along as “last resorts”, but not in a bad way. Just in the kind of way that’s like “this extended arm myspace-y shot is not precious enough to be apart of the 12 shots I get with my Holga, nor is it worth getting out my DSLR, but it’s definitely still worth taking”. Or in other words, these shots are not going to shock and awe you, but they’re personal and important to me.

Here are my favorites!

You’ve got to love disposable cameras for their accessibility. Quick and easy.

When I asked my friends for tips for our upcoming trip to the grand canyon one especially stood out to me, “There are two things you must do at the Grand Canyon: 1. See it at sunrise. And 2. See it at sunset.” This advice seemed so obvious, and yet I hadn’t even thought about it.

I did not see it at sunrise (never actually tried to. I’m not good at mornings), but we stuck around for the sunset and I am so glad we did. The canyon’s reds turned to blues and the sky painted itself into something I think can only be witnessed at the Grand Canyon. (Click on the photos you can see them larger!)

After seeing the beauty contained in the last photo, we were satisfied (we are also freezing). We went back to our car and started to drive away from the Grand Canyon, but a few minutes later the review mirror showed that behind us the sky had turned undeniably electric. The clouds were neon. we quickly pulled over at the next stop to view and capture the sun’s final moments of glory.

So yes, when you go to the Grand Canyon, you must see the sunset. And next time, I’m definitely going to see the sunrise too.

We arrived at the Grand Canyon around 1 PM, and after eating at the cafe, we started off on one of the many rim trails.

The canyon was beautiful and kind of surreal. I think we ended up hiking around 5ish miles and every single view was really lovely! So much so that we stopped every few feet to take more pictures, and it added a couple of hours onto the supposed duration time for the trail we chose. We took the trolly back to our car after we finished in order to get to a different spot with enough time to spare before the sun went down. A Grand Canyon sun set is coming up next.

On our way to The Grand Canyon from our hotel in Cameron we came across this little market nestled next to the Colorado River Canyon. I didn’t buy anything at the market but it was cool to see what they (the Native Americans who own the market) made. And the views of the canyon were a bonus.

There were several of these markets around the Grand Canyon so they’re easy to find. You should definitely stop at one while at the Grand Canyon to see all the pretty turquoise.

I’ll be back with pictures of the Grand Canyon soon!

I got my first roll of film from my trip developed! Just 4 more rolls to go. Here are the results!

This was my first roll of color film in my SLR. I need some practice but I like enough of the pictures from the roll to be happy with the results :) I used Kodak Portra-400NC 135.

We got back from the Grand Canyon late last night. I can’t wait to blog all of the pictures! But for now, here’s an Instagram overview.

1. Most of the camera gear I took along.
2. Sweet anticipation during the long car ride (2 days).
3. The great Grand Canyon
4. When the sun sets…
5. More pictures of this soon.
6. Monument Valley
7. Have ya?
8. Little teepees.

Right now I am so excited because I just ordered a bunch of film for my Spring Break trip to the Grand Canyon! (By the way, I would still love some advice about it!)

I tallied everything up, and if you count Instagram, I’m going to be carrying around 6 cameras during the trip! I think that’s almost enough. I would love to have more Polaroid film, but unfortunately, I cannot afford it. But it’s okay. I’ve been saving one frame for years and I will use it a the perfect moment during the trip! Speaking of Instagrams though, I thought I’d share some with you. Just some everyday life kind of stuff.

1. Sho got me a Ukata for Christmas! Did I mention he’s half Japanese?
2. Quick picture on the ride home from Nashville.
3. There’s not much better than this and apple butter on a Sunday morning.
4. My print from Holli came in the mail! Aren’t the Argentina stamps amazing?
5. This is what most of my editing sessions look like.
6. My friend Lauren drew me a little somethin’ somethin’ while we were gesture drawing in figure drawing class.

That’s all for now!

So the reason why my wanderlust has been intensifying lately (for the past four months) is because I’ve been planing my Spring Break trip to the Grand Canyon! I am beyond excited about it!

Alex, her husband, Nathan, Sho, and I will all be hoping into Sho’s mom’s car after class on Friday to hit the road to Arizona. I could not be more happy to be hitting the road with these three. We should be arriving at the Grand Canyon very late on Saturday/early morning on Sunday. We’ll spend two days there and then we’ll be going to Monument Valley and Slide Rock. We also have hotel reservations somewhere pretty famous and quirky.

I’ve been craving “the west” since Freshman year of college and I have been so drawn to Navajo textiles and prints for a few seasons so this trip is coming at the perfect time. However, planning some of the finer details and knowing what to expect has been a bit hard. Did you know there is a huge lack of Grand Canyon blog posts on the blogosphere? There is. I can find virtually nothing! So if you have any tips or experiences you would like to share with me, I would be more than thankful! Advice is wanted for pretty much any aspect of this trip!
